The Sunday Brunch with the Brothers, featuring Rushion McDonald, executive producer of the Neighborhood Awards Show, Lamman Rucker, star of OWN TV’s hot new show, Greenleaf, Tobias Truvillion of Empire, Dorian Missick, star of 9 Rides, and actor Cory Hardrick was officially one for the history books. These brothers got together on a panel filled with love and advice for all in attendance.
No matter the avenue you were chosing to ride down in the film and television industry, these “brothers” had nothing but sound advice to advance you in your quest for succcess. Barbershop owner and aspiring actor asked Rushion McDonald and Lamman Rucker for suggestions to taking on the pursuit as as actor being a fulltime career since that’s where his passion lies. Kearse was advised to use the resources currently available to him, such as the salon as a gather place to have viewing parties for various tv shows and screenings. Even McDonald suggested he have facebook live parties and convert into web series. He suggested Kearse use his current platform to showcase his acting skills.
“Using your current situation and platform to tie it into the field of television and acting is perfect. You have everything you need at your fingertips. Be regular at whatever activity you plan. Consistency is key. Keep up whatever you plan on a consistent basis.” – Rushion McDonald
Each of the panelists discussed their experience in the business from early beginnings and remembering how people treated them when they were very new. Missick spoke on Denzil Washington being a mentor in the gym and how the listening ear is really what helps guide him through decisions that he needs to make as an actor. Even though McDonald did not agree he was willing to be that listening ear while on the treadmill he did invite everyone to participate in ” Money making Mondays from 12noon – 1 pm on his facebook page.”
Lamman Rucker shared the fact that he totally believes in mentorship and being a mentor. He offered his listening ear and advised to anyone who was interested. This was a very brave thing to do in a room full of strangers. The one thing about stepping up and making a statement like Rucker is that people will hold you to it. I have a feeling Lamman Rucker will get some really good mentors out of this crown. Rucker who is starring in the television series “Greenleaf” on the OWN Network spoke on how he’s never too busy to guide, too busy for his current mentees or the business forplai he started on the side nor for the many people he has depending on him because of a mentorship he set up.
Two of the brunch attendees , Michael Que Kearse (who flew in from Virginia Beach, VA) and Anthony Langston who drove down from North Carolina both were pleased and impressed at the way the gentlemen actors on the panel humbly handled themseleves and answered questions and processed the concerns of the audience in regards to embarking goals in the industry.
